Adama Bah, Executive Director - Afrikana

Episode 19

Adama Bah is the founder and executive director of Afrikana, a nonprofit she started in 2022 when many migrants came to New York City. She understands their struggles because she was an asylum seeker, too.

Afrikana helps black migrants who are often overlooked. They give direct help and speak up for their needs.

Adama’s approach is different. Instead of just giving referrals, Afrikana helps right away and connects migrants with their cultural communities.

Adama’s favorite part of her job is helping people in situations she once faced. It makes her happy to see their gratitude. She also believes in working with others and learning from them.
